Four Things To Do This Weekend That Don’t Involve A Hangover

Standard

Don’t you want to wake up feeling refreshed? Wouldn’t you rather have the whole day ahead of you instead of sleeping the day away? Us too! Don’t get us wrong we love a good party! But we’ve also realized there are plenty of other fun and productive things to do on the weekends that leave you feeling good about yourself too.

  1. Dinner & Drinks
Instead of going out and waking up feeling like you might have been run over, grab a few drinks and dinner with your friends. Dinner allows you to talk and truly be with the people you care about. Oh and PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN. Most of the time when we’re out at a bar we can barely hear each other speak. So we like to switch it up with dinner and drinks every now and then. And when we say drinks we usually mean wine, but we’ll leave that decision up to you. All in all, you’re eating as you drink so you’re less likely to be throwing em back like there’s no tomorrow. Don’t worry you’ll still feel a buzz but in the morning you’ll be ready to roll.
  2. Try a new work out
Working out may be the latest trend, and we’re all about it. There are tons of eye catching or should we say breath taking (literally) new work out classes to take advantage of. Orangetheory Fitness and Pure Barre are two we have had personal experiences with. Orange Theory offers high intensity classes that strive to get your heart rate up. You wear a heart rate monitor and have a trainer for each class who guides the work out and you are e-mailed you’re results after class. Pure Barre is geared toward the ladies. If you want to relax and tone at the same time this is for you. We recommend you wear comfy clothes and socks that can grip the floor (they sell them at the store and they are adorable). This is all about using a ballet bar as well as learning how to use your muscles. It’s all about being one with your mind and body. Bringing a friend along can be a great bonding experience plus it’s great motivation to work out when you have set plans.
  1. Coffee Date
We LOVE coffee. Grabbing coffee with friends has always been a great time for us. Throughout college “dunkin runs” were a big deal. However now that we’re home and shall we say sophisticated? ….we’re into exploring. Explore your town for that cute and unique, local coffee shop to make “your spot”. Now that fall and winter are here, a coffee date can be a cozy and casual afternoon. If you’re a Long Island local there’s no question you’ve heard of Witches Brew. This dim-lit hot spot is covered with Christmas lights and funky décor. There is usually a line around the corner but if you time it right their frozen hot chocolate is a MUST.
  2. Kick back and Relax
Set the mood. Light a candle…. or five and throw your favorite movie on. This is perfect for Sunday when you want to wind down and mentally prepare yourself for the coming week. We know how stressful and crazy life can be, but we also know how important it is for your mind and soul to relax. So in the words of Dina Manzo “Namaste Bitches”.

Betches Love Fall

Standard

It’s officially here. Pumpkin spice everything season!
AKA a common/basic girl’s dream. AKA Fall. And betches looove Fall.

FullSizeRender

1. DO Pumpkin Errrthang
Pumpkin spice lattes (PSL), pumpkin ale, pumpkin picking, carving, etc. Pumpkins are a staple of the season and we recommend taking full advantage of it. If you’re not into pumpkins, the only other acceptable replacements are apples, but both are tasty and are perfect in baking traditional spiced treats.

2. DO Plan Activities
Apple or pumpkin picking are perfect for a cute day-date, a get together with friends or a day of laid back family fun. We’re firm in our belief that you’re NEVER too old for these activities and you should make a whole day of it. For us, living on Long Island means driving out east to stop at a few farms where we can pick our pumpkins and taste some delicious baked goodies or roasted sweet corn dripping in butter. We might even take it up a notch and cruise through the North Fork for a pit stop at a winery/vineyard! ;).

3. DO Dress for Success
Sweaters, scarves, boots. We LOVE Fall Fashion. How do we incorporate our favorite Fall pieces to work, you ask? Layering is key, whether dressing for the workplace or just keeping it casual. Don’t be afraid to layer cute sweaters with flannels, with denim — with really anything. If you’re going to work, you can mix and match flannels and sweaters with leather pencil skirts and boots. And don’t forget those leg warmers!

4. DO Halloween
Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like….We’re sure you can finish that quote. “I’m a mouse, Duh!”  But real talk, be original. If you’re still in college, you’re probably going out at least 3 consecutive nights, so don’t be afraid to vary your costumes and get creative! We think scary can be hot too (reference HBO Girls where Lena tries to look “scarily hot slash amazing.”)

HBO Girls

HBO Girls

But if you’re out in the real world like us, it’s officially time to go big or go home! Yes, Halloween can be stressful (Kerry will attest to that, she often considers staying in and giving out candy which sounds pretty good with a Pumpkin Ale..), but if you’re going out for the night, try something completely different — like the party in NYC where they paint your face!

Now, here’s a few Don’ts

1. DON’T go Instagram Crazy
Believe us when we say that we LOVE social media, especially Instagram. But there are abusers out there. Don’t get us wrong, we’ll be the first to shout “YOLO” and tell you not to care about what anyone else thinks about what you post (haters are our motivators!). We get it…you went pumpkin picking and you looked totally cute in that flannel, so obviously you’re going to post it and make all your followers jeal. But when I can tell you your every move that day, you might have overdone it just a little. Besides, lets try to enjoy living in the moment and who we’re with! 🙂 Since everyone believes our generation is incapable of doing so, prove ’em wrong!

2. DON’T overdo Halloween
You do not have to go out every single day. There is no rule about it. None. And FOMO shouldn’t exist quite the way it did in college, so you’ll be just fine.

3. DON’T Wimp Out On Baking
Believe in yourself! This is prime time for baking. There are plenty of ripe pumpkins and apples at your fingertips. Look up a mouth watering recipe on Pinterest, or better yet, spend time with a family member that can pass one along. It’s fun to try something new, even if you do mess up (which we always do!). But fingers crossed that you don’t because those apple crisps are absolutely delicious!

4. DON’T Forget About Football!
Ladies, even if you don’t understand football, it can be fun. Whether you’re attending an NFL game, a college game or a high school game, get into the spirit and tailgate! Besides, it’s an excuse to create a cute outfit with a jersey or throw an effortless get-together with friends at your place to watch the game. So pick a team or a player, and cheer them on!

Post Grad Life: The Struggle Is Real

Standard

Sorry we haven’t been very active on the blog lately, life has gotten a bit hectic this summer.

For those of you who are in the same boat as us — It’s over. Life as we know it. Summer has come to an end and we haven’t gone back to school…Is this is really happening?

kerrydana

Don’t worry, you’re not dying. You will survive this.

Whether you have landed your first full-time job that forces you to actually transform into a real person or you’re still out there looking, life after college is a confusing (but really exciting!) time.

We’ve been there — interview after interview, ups and downs and that feeling of “What am I doing with my life?” But we’re here to tell you that it’s going to be ok! No one should worry about having their life figured out in their early twenties, and if you do, well, good for you but we’re slightly concerned.

Just as an update: Recently we both began full-time positions, a lifestyle adjustment for sure. We had a busy and adventurous summer jam-packed with family, friends, travel and good times, and now we’re in the whirlwind of working every day.

10599205_10153135487885898_2579977049190151088_n

It can be intimidating (and depressing at times) when you realize “OMG! College is seriously over forever. Now I have to work everyday..like for the rest of my life…Can I retire yet?“. But hey, that’s why you try to seek a working environment that you would find enjoyable. Of course, everyone is different but our advice to you is RESEARCH THE COMPANY’S CULTURE FIRST. If you think you’re a great fit for the job because the company culture fits your personality, work ethic and values, chances are you’ll actually ENJOY going to work. Crazy idea, we know! Try not to get discouraged if you don’t get the job you were hoping for, it might just mean you weren’t right for the position and it would be too much for you to handle–which may be saving you from working a job that would take years off your life!

Also, keep in mind that once you start working, you’ll get into a routine. Make sure you plan fun activities with friends so that you have something to look forward to. Even if it’s something as simple as dinner every week, it will help the week go by and keep you out of that “sleep, work, repeat” mode.

Life after graduation can be just as fun. It is what you make of it and you are now a sophisticated, hard-worker, who knows how to have fun and live like a boss.

“Don’t let the haters stop you from doing your thang.” Thank you Mean Girls.

Life is full of surprises. You never know what can, or will happen. So enjoy the ride while you’re young!

Best and Worst of 2014 Met Gala

Standard

As all of you fashionistas know, the other night was the 2014 Met Gala/Ball – whatever you’d like to call it. It was a night for celebs to strut their stuff while taking far out fashion risks. Basically the rules are be funky, and show off your style. Ultimately, it’s just a great opportunity for all of us to decide what was acceptable and what wasn’t. We definitely saw some looks that were funky and risky last night and we loved that! But we feel if you’re gonna go all out, you have to make sure you’re able to pull it off. We wanted to highlight which glam dolls we thought were twenties approved, and which stars didn’t impress us at this year’s Gala.

Let’s start with the best:

1. Blake Lively
There’s really not much more to say, when doesn’t she look fabulous? Hair, dress, makeup and all. She looked so elegant and adorable standing next to her hubby, Ryan Reynolds! Well done Blake, you’re definitely Twenties Approved, as usual!

2. Victoria Beckham
While we were a little disappointed she didn’t throw on a “little black Gucci dress”, there’s no denying that she looks ah-mazing! Dressed in her namesake brand, Victoria pulled off the sleek look by pairing it with white heels and simple – but glamorous – diamond accessories. She looked so perfect we almost didn’t notice that David Beckham was standing at her side…WE SAID ALMOST!

3. Emma Stone
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 star totally rocked the two-piece crop top and skirt look. It wasn’t too revealing and we loved the pink on pink. Obviously we love the look of the effortless but chic braid; it was flawless. Side note: We do also have a braid and fishtail obsession!

Enough complimenting; it’s time for the fun stuff. We’ll be nice and refrain from calling them the worst looks, so we’ll just say which were the most interesting:

1. Lupita Nyong’o
Ok, so we know its Prada and it’s all high fashion and everything. But it’s called the MET Gala, not the NET Gala. Come on. As if the feathered and jeweled creation really wasn’t enough, the green headband and bag along with the purple hair just really killed it. Sorry Lupita, this one was a miss. Don’t worry, we’re sure you’ll stun us again soon!

2. Katie Holmes
What happened girlfriend?! Forget the dress itself, and the fact that it wasn’t flattering whatsoever, but the color. Why? Maybe it’s because we’re constantly hungry, but we think wearing that yellow on a red carpet only makes us think of one thing…McDonald’s.

Photo from @Zap2it Twitter.com

3. Kristen Stewart
UGH. The queen of resting bitch face. The detail on the Chanel dress is amazing, we’ll give her that. However, the overall look just did not come together with that copper-colored hair swept to one side and the mix of feathers on the dress.

P.S. Don’t you wish you were in this selfie of lady bosses?
Because we seriously do.

10 Things You Shouldn’t Freak Out About Before Graduating

Standard

31268_10150206468680082_695577_n

Graduation is creeping up on you, and we know how you feel. Here’s a list of 10 things that are probably causing your panic attack right now, but just take a deep breath, keep calm, and read on.

1. Not Having a Job

We totally get it. Everyone in your family is super eager to ask questions about your post-grad plans to find out what you’re going to do with the rest of your life. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a solid answer to give them? Sure, but realistically, this is not the case for many graduating college seniors. Just because you don’t have an offer set in stone for your dream job the day after graduation, this doesn’t mean it will never happen for you. Be patient but diligent in sending out those cover letters and resumes! Eventually, something will pop-up and the burden will be lifted!

2. Moving Back Home With Your Parents

We know it’s not ideal to go from having your best friends to your parents as roommates, but just stay focused on the bigger picture. Set yourself a goal of the date when you want to be moved out on your own, and make sure you’re working towards reaching that!

If you’re sick of hearing your parents say, “Where are you going? With who? Text me when you get there,” then it might be a sign that it’s time to leave the nest. Living with overbearing parents can be torture, but just remember that it is only temporary!

3. Finding Your Life Partner

Remember when there was a time where young people would actually go on dates to see if they were a good match? We don’t either. But, we’re determined to bring it back. Twenties should be all about of chivalry and romance, and more importantly, going out on actual dates to see who you work well with. You don’t need to find your significant other right away; you have years to let things fall into place, so don’t force it!

4. Paying Back Student Loans

While this can be a major source of stress for many, you can ease your worries by getting a job outside of your field simply to pay the bills in the meantime. The best part is, most schools have a 6 month buffer period where you can find a job and not have to pay back those catastrophic loans right away.

5. Leaving Your College Friends Behind

Being with the same group of people 24/7 for months can definitely create a strong bond between friends. When it comes time to part ways, it’s important to make a pact that you’ll all agree to stick too. It’s no different than a long distance relationship. Promise to visit one another every other month, send each other care packages, plan mini vacation weekends—whatever it takes!

6. Realizing That You Will Eventually Have a 9 to 5 Job

Try going to bed at a reasonable hour, and you might actually find that waking up before noon is not as bad as you thought. We’ve been there; we know that asking us to be at work at 9am is pretty much the same thing as telling us to run a mile before the sun rises. Create a routine for yourself and soon you will get the hang of things!

7. Seeing All Your Facebook Friends Getting Engaged/Popping Out Kids

This pretty much goes hand-in-hand with not worrying about meeting your other half. If you find yourself sobbing with your face in a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, remind yourself that there’s nothing to envy about having kids and no money to support them. Chances are you’ve have a quarter life crisis already about feeling unaccomplished for your age, but we promise that these milestones at age twenty are usually not glamorous in the long run. Just remember, the unfollow button is there for a reason.

8. Not Being Able to Drink Every Night

Kegstand! Kegstand! I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but believe it or not, it’s time to be a grown up. No more beer bongs or shot gunning in the backyard of some dirtbag frat house. Your days of making excuses for drinking every night are over. We both know there was never a such thing as Margarita Mondays, Tequila Tuesdays, Whiskey Wednesdays, etc. Don’t start hyperventilating just yet; there are benefits to experiencing life without your beer googles on! Allow yourself to do fun (sober) things during the week, like trying out that restaurant that recently opened in town, or catching up with your best friend from high school over some fro-yo.

9. Not Binge Eating at 3am

We’ll be the first to admit that there’s nothing better than taquitos and bagel bites after getting home from a night out, but that comes with some consequences. You will most likely feel like garbage the morning after scarfing down a feast of fried stuff. If you try eating healthy and unprocessed foods, you could see a major change in your mood and feel cleansed. Bonus: eating right is also great for your skin and can help give you that glowing complexion.

10. Not Having All the Answers Right Now

It’s fine to not have everything figured out right now. It’s fine that you don’t have a detailed plan of the next 5 years of your life. It’s fine that the road ahead is unclear. Our advice to you: work hard, learn to roll with the punches, and most importantly, just enjoy living out your twenties!

Lets Tone It Up This Thursday

Standard

Welcome to the mermaid life ladies.

Once you read this post you’ll be hooked. And if that doesn’t do it surf their site yourself. toneitup.com !

Who are we talking about? Well if you haven’t heard of them yet, they’re the power bestie duo Karena and Katrina. You may have seen these beach babes on their show “TonedUp” on Bravo or maybe you’ve heard of them for their awesome brand Tone It Up. These ladies do it all; workout videos, lifestyle advice and healthy recipes.

We know what you’re thinking. Why would you want these perfect, mermaid like, beach babes telling you how to work out. Shush! Dont make a judgement just yet–it’s not like that at all! We’re totally obsessed with them and everything they stand for.

Karena and Katrina are best friends, (just like us) who have a passion for living life healthy and happy. Nutrition and fitness have changed their lives and now they’re inspiring women all over the country to do the same. And it’s working! Tone It Up isn’t just working out, it’s a lifestyle and community they have created. Women can share their stories and inspire each other everyday through all of Tone It Up’s social media platforms. And the best part is they’re about being healthy, so none of that dieting where you can barely eat or something and just can’t even take it. Because we like to eat, and do things the right way.

Their awesome app gives you a weekly schedule of workouts and allows you to surf their products, lifestyle posts and more. Oh and of course their Beach Babe Workout DVD. Trust us, listen to these girls they’re completely down to Earth and really passionate about what they do. Besides that, they wear the coolest bathing suits by Maaji Swimwear.

Just look at them: total mermaids. And we love mermaids, well we are mermaids.

Summer is coming, and we’re thinking these besties have it right. Beach life is where we wanna be. Let us know what you think!

Start dreaming of the beach mermaids, and tone it up for that happy and healthy life!

Happy Earth Day!

Standard

We totally approve of Earth Day!

We’re all about peace, love, and earth. I guess you could say we completely support hippie beliefs–as long as you bathe and embrace all that good hygiene stuff. In celebration of Earth Day, we thought we’d share a pic of one of our favorite places ever, Lake George!

IMG_0952

Today we not only commemorate a movement, but acknowledge that the fate of our beautiful planet earth rests in our hands. On a much smaller scale (other than the fact that we are encouraging global warming by not preserving, polluting and not recycling), think of it like this: Who wants to go to the beach, catch some rays and uhm…swim in some garbage? Not me. That’s for sure. Do us a favor; as you drive today, take a moment to look out your window and notice the garbage on the side of the road. No one wants to see that. We should aspire to see green grass, trees and blooming flowers–not your McDonalds bag from last year!

It’s time to do your part. By simply changing your habits, you–yes YOU–could greatly impact the world. Who knows, showing Mother Nature a little extra love could cause a chain reaction!

For our die-hard tree-huggers out there, check out all the ways to get involved by visiting http://www.earthday.org.

Peace our fellow flower-children, and Happy Earth Day!

xoxo Ker & Dee

#DrakeforKen & #DrakeforUs

Standard

We may be a little late on this post, but we HAD to share our excitement for our number one man.

If you haven’t heard already, World’s sweetest rapper Drake visited a fifteen-year-old girl in Houston who’s classmates wanted to make all her dreams come true. Kennedy Brown had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to leave school, so her classmates decided to create “High School in a day” where they crowned her prom queen and she received her high school diploma. What more could they want for their friend, well Drake of course!

The media was all over the story and the kids were smart enough to take advantage of that. They asked the media, which then asked everyone who watched the news story to tweet at rapper Drake and hashtag “DrakeforKen” in hopes to grab his attention. And it totally worked! Drake made a personal phone call to Ken’s father and told the family that he was making a special trip to Houston.

And there’s pictures to prove it! Drake instagramed all day with the family and Ken. Not to mention they’re the sweetest, most precious pictures you’ll ever see!

Now all of this is not only making a little girl’s dream come true but also spreading great publicity for drake. He continued to use #DrakeforKen on all of his instas. We like to believe the star enjoyed his visit just as much as Ken did. (I mean seriously those pictures can’t lie-look at those smiles)

Whatever way anyone wants to see it, we’re in full support of you Drizzy ❤

Man Crush Monday: Jesse McCartney

Standard

Photo cred: jessemac.com

Attention all Jesse McCartney fans! The dreamy pop singer is making his comeback in a major way and we could not be more excited! Aside from being ridiculously good looking and having a well-defined jaw line, he is sensitive and a romantic, which basically makes him the perfect man. If you look at his website, jessemac.com, I promise you’ll immediately start drooling. It features a quote by Jesse which reads:

“We’re all on this planet for one reason,
To find somebody to share your life with, that sees you for what you’re worth.
That’s what colors your world, everything else is black and white.”

AS IF WE DIDN’T GUSH OVER HIM ALREADY! Every girl wants to find that one guy who would put their love first, and I’m telling you ladies, Jesse McCartney is a hidden gem!

His new album, titled “In Technicolor Pt. 1”, is now available on iTunes. We suggest listening to “Back Together”, which we’ve been jamming out to for weeks now. We should point out that as the title suggests, it’s not the ideal song for someone going through a breakup and is thinking about drunk texting an ex. But then again, you could do what we do and just imagine that Jesse is singing to you and your search for the dream guy will be over!

We’ve loved him ever since “Beautiful Soul” and “Leavin”, but this new album just reassured us that he is definitely Twenties Approved and worthy of being our Man Crush Monday! He is proof that the good guys are still out there; don’t lose hope! Let us know your suggestions for the next Man Crush Monday in the comment section below!

Hofstra Seniors 201

Hey there! This is our first official blog post so we thought we’d introduce ourselves. We are Kerry and Dana from Long Island, New York and we have been best friends for 8 years. We met when we were freshmen in high school and have been inseparable ever since. We went off to two different colleges, Marist and Hofstra, but we remained closer than ever. Coincidentally, we both decided to major in public relations. Hence the idea for this blog.

Although we are best friends we are not the same person, there are definitely some differences in our style, but we totally rock it. The theme of this blog is to explore our feelings on what’s “in” right now or to share our latest obsessions. We’re passionate about a number of things and couldn’t imagine focusing on just one. From music to hair to fashion, you’ll see it all on this blog. It’s an exciting time in our lives right now as we finish our senior year of college and have to start thinking about the real world—but not just yet. We have always dreamed of working together, so here it goes!

We are so excited about starting this blog and we hope you enjoy it!

Stay tuned to explore with us as our blog develops and our obsessions change and grow with us.
